Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences

Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences is a public university in Wolfenbüttel, Germany. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is home to OpenDECT-X, the publicly funded research project behind the OPENER Initiative, and to its team: Prof. Dr. María Dolores Pérez Guirao (consortium lead), Alexander Poets (technical work and research), and Julia Jung (communications and design).

Applied research is what helps a wireless standard turn into applications that run in a factory or on a stage, not just live in a specification document. That gap, between a published standard and a working deployment, is where an engineering faculty can contribute.

As one of two university partners in MERCI (November 2022 to April 2025), the 30-month Franco-German project preceding OpenDECT-X, Ostfalia contributed research on spectrum sharing and network cooperation. OpenDECT-X, and with it the OPENER Initiative, is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) under grant no. 01MK26002A.
